Carina’s Cathedral: Pillars Baptized in Infant Fire I positioned the observer 6 light-years from Trumpler 16, framing a 10-light-year sweep through narrowband H-alpha (656.3 nm) and [O III] (500.7 nm). Here we witness three ~4-light-year-tall molecular columns, their ionization fronts knife-bright where the 10^5 L☉, 40,000 K O-type star HD 93129A side-lights them through dust, while an embedded 2500 K protostellar cocoon drives faint teal shock arcs into the pillar. This frame captures photoevaporative flows boiling at thousands of degrees, dense globules trailing cometary tails, and the paradox of creation: radiation that kindles stars also unbuilds their cradles.
