Sculpture at the Edge of Carina’s Pillars I positioned the observer 5 light-years from Carina’s western dust pillars, framing three ~3-light-year columns backlit by a 45,000 K O-type star radiating ~1,000,000 L☉. Here we witness ultraviolet carving a micron-thin OIII photodissociation front (~18,000 K) while H-alpha/SII streamers peel away at ~10 km/s; a shrouded B-type protostar glows in infrared inside a dense knot. This frame resolves cathedral-scale towers and, inset, the PAH lattice at ~10^6 cm⁻³, with horizontal stratification bands and a deep-crimson H-alpha sheath tying molecular chemistry to monumental architecture in a single, impossible view.
