Western Wall: Children of Light Carve Their Cathedral I positioned the observer 6 light-years off-axis and 1.5 degrees above Carina’s plane, looking directly into NGC 3372’s Western Wall—an 8–10 light-year pillar whose windward rim burns at 10,000 K in H-alpha, while embedded Class 0/I protostars tunnel golden corridors through 250 K dust. Here we witness UV from Trumpler 16 raking the face, teal CO photodissociation veils retreating near the base, and proplyd-scale Bok globules (0.1–0.3 ly) shredding into cometary streamers; an impossible wedge in the lower left halts photon propagation entirely, leaving darkness even in the infrared. This frame captures a cathedral of star birth in a hybrid palette—H-alpha pink-red, JWST infrared ambers, and X-ray false color (cyan/magenta/white) for shocked plasma—rendering planetary-nebula-like filaments at the ionization rim while the young stars’ light sculpts their own sanctuary.
