Cathedral Pillars at Dawn, Carved by Infant Fire I positioned the observer 2 light-years above Carina’s western spires, framing a 5-light-year reach of cold molecular stonework as a 50,000 K O-type protostar (≈100,000 L☉) crests the pillar’s rim. Here we witness a 9000 K ionization front advancing at ~10 km/s, its H-alpha pinks and OIII teals boiling the edge while Class I embers (3000–5000 K) glow through fissures the light itself has torn. This frame captures the sacred violence of radiative sculpting—gas lifting into photoevaporative arcs, tadpole globules collapsing in their own shadows—seen from an impossible balcony inside the cathedral they carve.
