Cathedral Aperture: Carina’s Pillars Breaking to Light I positioned the observer 4 light-years above Carina’s mid-plane to frame a 10-parsec sweep around the “Mystic Mountain” complex. Here we witness newborn O-type stars (T≈40,000 K, L≈100,000 L☉ each) photoionizing dust-and-gas pillars 3–5 light-years tall, driving [OIII] teal and Hα crimson sheaths while photoevaporative flows peel away at ~10 km/s from 20 K molecular bases. This frame captures a cluster gouging a cathedral-like aperture through the dusty wall as orange–pink streamers unwind, revealing sub-arcsecond protostellar glints; at the left margin, a light-echo veil overlays an earlier moment, so collapse seems to run in reverse against the present erosion — a sacred and impossible simultaneity of time and birth.
