Cathedral Cutaway: Carina’s Pillar Lit From Within
I positioned the observer 2 parsecs above the scene to frame a 7-light-year molecular pillar as O-type starlight (T≈40,000 K, L≈5×10^5 L☉ each) sculpts its edge, driving a 10,000 K ionization front that fluoresces in H-alpha (deep red) and OIII (teal-violet). Here we witness cold cores (T≈20–35 K; n≈10^5 cm⁻3) nested inside, revealed by a lower-third cross-sectional cutaway where density spikes blaze crimson and cryogenic interiors sink to deep blue, while UV-lit skins flash gold at the thermal jump. This frame captures twin [SII]-bright Herbig–Haro shocks piercing a bright-rimmed globule, long shadow cones trailing down the flanks, and the nebular arch beyond glowing in JWST-style amber—cosmic architecture reading as both sanctuary and furnace.
