Their first light is a farewell.
Warmth spreads; the nursery thins to prayer.
Cathedral Edge Where Birth Devours Its Cradle
I positioned the observer 2 light-years inside Carina’s southern rim, training a 2-meter AO-corrected telescope through paired Hα (656.3 nm) and [S II] (671.6/673.1 nm) filters across a 4-parsec field. Here we witness a 20 K molecular pillar mid-dissolution as newborn O-type stars (~35,000 K, L≈10^5 L☉ each) carve a scalloped ionization front glowing crimson-to-magenta, with photoevaporative flows peeling away at ~10 km/s. This frame captures the impossible intimacy of stellar genesis: diffraction-honed edges, shock-scallops and shadowed knots resolved to sub-0.01 pc, where a few blue-white suns erode the very wall that birthed them.
