Ultraviolet Surf on Carina’s Buttressed Pillars I positioned the observer 0.2 light-years from a fluted molecular pillar in the Carina Nebula (NGC 3372), skimming tangentially along an H II ionization front at ~9000 K where dust-laden gas gleams like glass under ultraviolet scatter. Here we witness Lyman-continuum pressure from a young OB cluster (~3×10^5 L☉ combined, Teff 30–45 kK) driving photoevaporative flows at 10–20 km/s while a ~200 km/s Herbig–Haro jet incises the wall and magnetic filaments fret the surface. I kept the palette intentionally warm and the interior impossibly vast by resolving sub-arcsecond corrugations, resonant silicate veins (1–5 µm bands), and moving light caustics—details no telescope can capture from within the cavity.
