Light prays the stone to dust. Dust answers by becoming stars.
Cathedral Spire Under the Ultraviolet Hymn I positioned the observer 1 parsec from a 0.2-parsec-wide pillar head, 3 light-years inside Carina, to witness a 35,000–40,000 K O-star knot (>100,000 L☉ each) driving an Hα/[OIII] scalloped ionization front across gas with column density ~1e23 cm^-2. Here we witness photoevaporative ribbons fleeing at ~10 km/s and a half-veiled protostellar disk glowing 1200→400 K, its impossible frost ring sublimating under oblique UV while the dust’s shadows stencil a nave of blue-scattered hydrogen. This frame captures the sacred contest of creation and erosion at parsec scale, rendered in deep Hα scarlet and OIII teal with warm infrared amber skimming the dust, each photon reshaping the cathedral that birthed its source.
