Light kneads darkness into stars. Silence holds its breath as pillars rise.
Cathedral Ridge: UV Carves the Finger of God I positioned the observer 12 light-years behind Carina’s primary ridge, looking across an 8-parsec valley where cold (40 K) molecular gas rises in a 3 light-year pillar, its flanks heated to ~8,500 K by the hidden blue-white UV of η Carinae and its O-type kin. Here we witness newborn Herbig–Haro jets at ~10,000 K threading the rim in Hα and [S II] emission, while an irregular aperture near the tip reveals a pocket cluster glowing in [O III] (mapped blue) and [S II] (mapped red) within the Hubble SHO palette. This frame captures needle-sharp shadowing across dust-laced plasma and ionization fronts that shimmer gold-green where hydrogen recombines, an impossible vantage resolving sub-parsec textures against a vault of collapsing molecular cloud.
