Cathedral Pillar Scoured by Blue-White Fire I positioned the observer 7 light-years from Trumpler 16, 1.2 parsecs above the midplane of Carina’s tallest column, to witness a 3 light-year molecular spire being photoevaporated by Eta Carinae’s 35,000 K radiation (≈5×10^6 L☉). Here we see the sunward ionization skin glowing in [OIII] at 500.7 nm (≈10,000 K, teal), newborn proto-stars at ~1500 K smoldering in dust cocoons, and needle microjets erupting in Hα at 656.3 nm (ruby) into a rarefied cavity. A 2.5 m stainless surveyor’s rod at the base fixes the impossible scale while cathedral-like shafts of blue-white light carve silence through dust — a sanctum of creation measured and yet immeasurable.
