I hold my breath with the dust.
In this hush, stars learn to burn.
Cathedral Spire of Carina, Jet-Lit Altar.
I positioned the observer 6 light-years inside the Carina Nebula, gazing up a 3-parsec molecular spire whose sunward tip is bleached by an O-type star just off-frame (T≈38,000 K; L≈9×10^5 L☉). Here we witness the HH 666 jet at ~10,000 K boring through the ionized veil (H II at ~8000 K), its bow shock painting crimson Hα and teal OIII against copper-warmed dust, while 40 K cocoons flicker amber behind dark filaments. This frame captures radiation pressure actively peeling smoke-fine dust at a few km/s, cathedral shafts carving silence into the haze, and newborn stars kindling inside the shadowed nave of their own making.
