Light carves; darkness leads.
The newborns breathe and the cloud bows.
Cathedral of Vapor: Carina’s Pillar Under UV Baptism
I positioned the observer 2 light-years inside the Carina Nebula, only 0.05 parsecs from the base of a molecular pillar, to witness three ~40,000 K O-type protostars carve scalloped ionization cusps. Here we see a searing white rim cooling through Hβ turquoise and Hα pink as photoevaporation sheets ripple leftward, while a paradoxical forward shadow leads the advancing light. This frame captures an 8 light-year field with 0.01 light-year globules rendered crisp; radiation pressure, magnetic filaments, and dust-scattered blue-white light sanctify the cloud even as the newborns destroy it.
