Cathedral Arches at Carina’s Burning Edge I positioned the observer inside the nebula’s nave, 4 light-years from its heart, looking across three 3-parsec pillars whose knife-thin ionization fronts glow at ~10,000 K while a 4500 K, ~40 L☉ protostar perches like a molten bead at the central tip. Here we witness O-type stars (≈35,000–40,000 K) backlighting dust and H II into copper, magenta (Hα), and teal (O III), as bipolar jets (~200–300 km/s) tunnel the pillar and Bok globules cast paradoxically aureoled shadows. This frame captures an impossible proximity and resolution—pillars filling a 5-arcminute field with caustics, shock knots, and photoevaporative streamers visible mid-transformation, the very moment creation begins to unmake its cradle.
