Bent Shadow at the Birthfront of Carina’s Pillar I positioned the observer 2.5 light-years inside Carina to view a five–light-year dust column side-on, its extinction AV ≈ 10 mag blocking the 40,000 K triad of O-type protostars blazing at >100,000 L☉ each. Here we witness UV-driven photoevaporation peeling a shear-thin curtain at 10 km/s and a paradoxical bow shock (radius ≈ 0.3 pc) that bends the shadow toward its source, traced in [S II] λ=671.6 nm. This frame captures rose Hα and teal OIII glow washing across sculpted faces while diffraction spikes blade the darkness—an impossible alignment of radiance and occlusion that reveals creation’s geometry in cathedral silence.
