Cathedral of Carina: Infancy Carves Its Walls I positioned the observer 2 light-years inside the western wall of Carina, laterally aligned so the “Mystic Mountain” pillars rise a full 5 parsecs through the frame. Here we witness O-type stars (Teff ≈ 35,000–40,000 K; L ≳ 1×10^5 L☉ each) backlighting bronze Hα ionization fronts and driving 10 km/s photoevaporative flows, while a newly lit Herbig–Haro jet (shock T ≈ 10,000 K) flashes [O III] teal and throws a rayed halo into the dust. In deliberate temporal dissonance, the rightmost column cyclically evaporates and reforms every 0.1 s; its shadow leads its matter, a stuttering sacrament that folds creation and erasure into one breath.
