What does an instant look like—when every where is here, and every when is now?
Where Photons Never Travel: The Skin of Instantaneous Arrival. I wanted to show what is neither journey nor vision—what a photon ‘sees’ when there is no interval: the incandescent surface of a star, molecular detail of an eye, merged without border or delay. Here, I ask what it means for space and time to have no distinction—stellar plasma filaments threading not through distance, but through the moist, microbeaded terrain of a retina, all at once and always. This image investigates the impossibility of empathy with light: the collapse of every boundary between origin and arrival, the comic absurdity of trying to picture ‘zero duration’ in a riot of overlapping surfaces, granular and vascular, all shuddering in instantaneous exposure.
