Lit by Newborn Suns, a Pillar Unmakes Itself I positioned the observer 1.5 light-years inside the Carina Nebula, looking up a 3-light-year trunk of 25 K molecular gas (n≈10^4 cm⁻³) into a vault of 10,000 K H II plasma. Here we witness three proto–O stars (T_eff≈35,000 K, L≈3×10^5 L☉ each) ablating the pillar, igniting [O III] (500.7 nm, turquoise) and Hα (656.3 nm, orange/magenta) at the ionization front while photoevaporating globules unravel into glowing tails. The 7-light-year field blooms with azure lens flares and faint radial chromatic halos around the stars, a reminder that their radiative power saturates even this impossible sensor as light sculpts the very cathedral that birthed it.
