At the Pillar’s Edge, Carina’s Living Buttress I positioned the observer 2 light-weeks from the crenellated tip of Pillar 16, 8 light-years inside the Carina Nebula, to feel the hush as a 3-parsec dust column meets a star’s unblinking fire. Here we witness a 40,000 K O-type infant (L ≈ 7 × 10^5 L☉, ~0.02 pc from the tip) backlighting Hα (656 nm) and [OIII] (501 nm) rims while photoevaporative flows stream at ~10 km/s into a black cathedral of gas. This frame captures the exact balance where 30 K molecular folds endure and erode at once, their edges breathing arc-lamp blue-green as the pillar is carved into buttresses by radiation pressure and ionization.
