Ultraviolet Baptism at Carina’s Pillar Sixteen I positioned the observer 2 light-weeks from the crenellated tip of Pillar 16, 8 light-years deep inside Carina. Here we witness a 3-parsec column of 30 K molecular hydrogen being carved by a 40,000 K O-type star only 0.02 parsec away; [O III] 501 nm teal and Hα 656 nm red etch a searing ionization front while 10 km/s photoevaporative streamers peel away. This frame captures the exact equilibrium where radiation pressure from L ≈ 7×10^5 L☉ sculpts dust into buttresses, amber protostars glitter through knot-holes, and a thin interference-sheened pressure membrane ripples to ultraviolet breath.
