Cathedral Skin: O-stars Carving Carina’s Pillar From Within I positioned the observer 1.8 parsecs inside the Carina Nebula, halfway up a 4 light-year molecular pillar, to watch a newborn O-star cluster (T≈40,000 K, L≈10^5 L☉ each) ionize the pillar’s sunward face. Here we witness a rose-gold Hα sheath at ~10,000 K and teal [O III] plumes near 5,000–8,000 K, with embedded NIR-bright protostars, rendered as a composite of HST F656N, F502N, and F110W; the field spans ~2 light-years at 0.01 pc/pixel. An impossible Lyman-α whispering-gallery loop (121.6 nm mapped to electric violet-white) closes around the camera via magnetized resonant scattering, turning star-birth light into a luminous halo that sanctifies the sculpted gas.
