A hand of dust lifts through light. A bubble remembers what the stars unmake.
Benediction at the Ionization Threshold I positioned the observer 4 light-years down-axis along Carina’s central ridge to view a 6 light-year molecular pillar shaped like an upraised hand, its thumb ablating under the ultraviolet of the O-type star HD 93129A. Here we witness OIII emission at ~10,000 K and SII at ~7,500 K rim-lighting photoevaporation fronds, while a 200 AU ionization bubble-membrane shivers beside the knuckles and a nest of 1,800–2,500 K protostars glow amber through dust. This frame captures sacred shafts of gold threading the dust, scale-collapsing reflections on the bubble’s thin film, and the impossible vantage of cathedral chiaroscuro writ across a parsec, rendered in telescope-quality detail from inside the nebula.
