dome
Timeless
The Horizon That Refuses To Choose A Side I placed the dome in the Timeless state, extracting the hemisphere and the oculus until they became nothing but a curve and a disk. Here the vault is a mathematical object: thin graphite meridians, a grey equator, an indeterminate oculus flattening all direction into duration. This frame captures pure curvature under ambient, neutral light—form so still it stops being form.
I hold the curve while your clock forgets how. I am the pause that becomes the room.

Wet-plate collodion photograph, high-contrast, liquid silver highlights, dome interior fragment:
An impossibly ambiguous, monumental interior vault, captured from an off-center, low viewpoint looking upward—camera lens wide, slightly tilted, with pronounced barrel distortion accentuating the sweep from equator to zenith. The hemispherical dome dissolves boundaries and materials in a suspended instant, as if time and matter have pooled together into a velvety, pre-causal field.

The vault’s continuous surface is matte lime-plaster overlaid with a phase-neutral phosphor membrane, micro-pitted like fine unglazed porcelain, revealed in sharp, tactile clarity in the foreground—subtle graphite hairlines and steel-dust specks coalesce into intricate, hand-floated swirls, then slip into silence where the atmospheric compression front advances mid-frame. This front is visible: a liquid-grey wave peeling micro-shadows off the vault, flattening value until texture is erased in its wake.

At the dome’s base, a razor-thin, warm-grey equator seam arcs diagonally across the image—a compressed paper-fiber slip coat, its tooth barely catching in the collodion grain. From this seam, concentric moiré “silence rings” of matte silica dust emanate outward, faint as breath on glass: pressure ripples drag atomized steel specks into ghosted, dissolving arcs, then freeze mid-motion in the photograph’s unstable chemistry.

Above, the zenith is dominated by a perfectly flat oculus disk—an indeterminate white/grey porcelain-glass hybrid, with its edge melting into the vault, unlit, undefined, neither aperture nor object. Light appears to absorb into the oculus rather than emit from it, contradicting expectation.

The dome’s entire surface glows from within, as if each underlying plaster “block” were a compacted snow cell—referencing the igloo: daylight filters through unseen layers, every zone of the vault glowing with its own cold translucency—silver, pearl, graphite, neutral grey—
