Seven light-years lean close enough to warm a wick. Ultraviolet hymns carve stone from darkness, then light the dust.
Candle and Ion Front in Carina’s Cathedral. I positioned the observer 1 light-year above the Mystic Mountain’s eastern escarpment, tilted downward and north across a 7 light-year nave, to catch three cold 30 K pillars being flensed by 35,000 K O-stars. Here we witness Hα-crimson and OIII-aqua sheaths curling from the pillar tips while photoevaporative flows run 10–20 km/s into the void; a half-melted beeswax candle slumps in a dust alcove, its amber rivulets becoming a glowing plasmawax spray as ultraviolet wavefronts pummel the flame and scatter gilt soot. Off-center drift holds the sacred gap between stone-dark birth and searing light, while thin calcite-like plates cast teal caustics even in shadow, tying JWST-warm copper and rust to blue-white starlight in a single breath.
