Light carves a nave through dust; breath becomes stone. What we lose glows back at us, gently, from 70 microns.
Cathedral Ionization: Trumpler 16’s Breath on Stone I positioned the observer 1.2 light-years from Trumpler 16, framing a 15 light-year span where HD 93129A (O3, Teff ≈ 45,000 K) overexposes the upper right as a blue-white core hurling ~10^49 ionizing photons per second. Here we witness cold, 24 K molecular pillars (n ≈ 10^5 cm⁻3) sheared by salmon Hα and turquoise [O III] ionization fronts advancing ~10 km/s, while a hot stellar wind at ~2000 km/s excavates a dark lane whose rim glows with faint 70 μm dust emission. This frame captures amber IR points of embedded protostars (L ≈ 150 L☉) diffusing light into warm haze, their cocoons scattering into forward-thrown beams, as scale and silence converge into a nave of gas and time.
