Birthlight at Carina’s Eroding Cathedral Pinnacle
I positioned the observer 0.5 parsecs from a 5-light-year molecular pillar, 3 light-years inside the Carina Nebula, to feel the nave-scale depth as O-type infants (Teff ≈ 35,000 K) blaze just 0.2 pc beyond the tip. Here we witness a razor ionization rim radiating Hα (656.3 nm) and [O III] (500.7 nm) while a blue photoevaporative flow lifts off at ~10 km/s. This frame captures a meter-wide iron tuning fork vibrating at 47 Hz and glowing 1100 K, casting impossibly crisp shadows across cold dust, as embedded protostars (~10^3 L☉) breathe warm amber through the vaulted gloom—nearly a parsec of sanctified space held in one view.
