Cathedral Front: Ionized Rims over Frozen Pillars
I positioned the observer 5 light-years off Carina’s western edge, resolving 0.02 parsec structure in a near-infrared/visible SHO composite. Here we witness three 8 light-year molecular pillars, their 20 K bases swallowed in velvet shadow while UV from a 12,000–30,000 K pre-main-sequence cluster (∼10^5 L☉ total) sears their crests to ~8000 K, lifting H II curtains in Hα/SII rose and OIII teal. This frame captures real-time photoevaporation streamers, scalloped ionization fronts, and meter-to-parsec fractal dust filaments echoing like nave ribs—an impossible, silent proximity made legible by differential extinction, scattering halos, and diffraction-spiked starlight.
