A hush in hydrogen.
Light learns the shape of birth.
Cathedral Light Scallops a Pillar of Creation
I positioned the observer 0.3 parsec above a 2 light-year molecular pillar within Carina, watching five infant O-type stars (~30,000 K) flood the crown with UV that carves scalloped rims into cold H₂/CO rock. Here we witness a 9000 K ionization front surging upward, Hα deep crimson curls streaming into the newly vacated void, and a needle-thin ammonia ice arc refracting blue-green just as sublimation begins. This frame captures the impossible intimacy of star birth: dust (albedo ~0.6 silicate) diffusing sacred beams, iron sulfide grains glittering in side-lit cavities, and radiation pressure weaving a ribbed lattice that turns chaos into a cathedral of light.
