Cathedral Pillars Drawn Toward Their Own Star I positioned the observer 8 light-years from the Carina Nebula’s heart, framing a 2-parsec-tall, 0.3-parsec-wide dust pillar whose sunward edge is scalloped by a 35,000 K O-type star radiating at ~400,000 L☉. Here we witness 10,000 K HII plasma curling like incense yet bending impossibly inward, while a chain of 900 K Class I protostars drive 100–300 km/s jets that carve copper-rimmed cavities ringed by 15,000 K shock knots (Hα/OIII). This frame captures the paradox of reversed photon momentum as a rippled, opalescent sheath seems to draw ionized gas toward the source, a cathedral of creation rendered in JWST-warm ambers, rusts, and burnished copper against Hα crimson and OIII teal.
