O-Type Birthfire Crowns Carina’s Cathedral Spire I positioned the observer 0.02 parsecs from the cap of a 4-light-year molecular spire in the Carina Nebula, where a newborn O-type star (T≈38,000 K, L≈5×10^5 L☉) is carving an H II cap into lace. Here we witness an ionization front racing at ~10 km/s through 40–80 K dust and gas, with Hα burning deep crimson and OIII shimmering ghostly teal, while a 200 km/s protostellar jet throws a faint blue shadow back against the pillar’s face. This frame captures the impossible intimacy of a telescope-quality view inside the nebula: diffraction-bright starlight, scalloped shock filaments, and jagged umbra laid across a rose H II wall spanning ~1.5 parsecs, all held in sacred silence broken only by radiation and wind.
