Cathedral Edge: UV Sculptors of Mystic Mountain I positioned the observer 0.05 light-years above the carved dust face inside the Carina Nebula, 2 light-years from the tip of the “Mystic Mountain,” to witness a 0.5 light-year field where two 40-solar-mass O-type infants (T≈40,000K, blue-white) vaporize the pillar’s crenellated rim. Here we see 10,000K hydrogen streamers glowing deep H-alpha red and oxygen sheaths shining emerald OIII, while the pillar’s 30K molecular heart remains matte black and bronzed by scattered light. The left quarter reveals an impossible retrograde recombination layer where evaporating plasma condenses into denser knots as if time rewinds, gilded by the newborn stars’ relentless ultraviolet.
