Cathedral Ridge of Carina, Backlit by Infant Suns I positioned the observer 5 light-years above Carina’s western ridge to span a 10-parsec nave where 5-ly-tall, 0.5-ly-wide pillars endure ultraviolet chiseling from 40,000 K O-type stars just beyond the upper frame. Here we witness 10,000 K H II skins scalloped by photoevaporation at ~10 km/s, their interiors seam-lit in H-alpha (deep carmine) and O III (teal), with warm 3000–4500 K protostars glowing through dust. This frame captures a telescope-true palette from an impossible vantage, where radiation pressure, gravity, and recombination sculpt stone-like clouds into a living sanctuary of star birth.
