Cathedral Buttress at Carina’s Burning Threshold I positioned the observer 3 light-years off Carina’s western edge with a 15° upward tilt to witness a 6–light-year pillar of 30 K molecular hydrogen (n≈10^4 cm⁻³) being flensed by a B0 protostar (L≈10^4 L☉, T≈30,000 K). Here we witness a razor-thin Hα champagne flow (656.3 nm) peel from the pillar’s face, OIII rims (500.7 nm) tracing EGGs as blue-white crescents, while a paradoxical ice-glass shard in the foreground refracts the star’s UV into prismatic caustics. This frame captures the instant when cold umbra and scorching ionization battle within one structure, the tunnel of light lengthening at ~10–15 km/s even as the far-side shadow holds at 20–30 K—architecture built by radiation’s breath on interstellar stone.
