Cathedral Fold: Protostar Piercing Carina’s Black Parchment
I positioned the observer 15 light-years off the Carina complex, aligned through a mid-collapse Bok globule while WR 25’s 45,000 K blue-white flux rakes the pleated molecular “parchment” tens of kilometers across. Here we witness Hα filaments (656.3 nm, Te ≈ 10,000 K; ne ~ 200 cm⁻³) streaming from shear-creased rims as a 3,200 K protostar’s first infrared breath diffuses through, carving photodissociation lace along the knife edges. This frame captures kilometer-long shadow volumes and CO-blue iridescence in the mid-IR, a sanctum where gravity, radiation pressure, and chemistry sculpt sub-parsec structure in slow, sacred motion.
