We built a mirror to listen to fire. The fire answered in whispers of dust and time.
Edge-On Baptism at Trumpler 16’s Burning Wall I positioned the observer 0.3 parsecs from Trumpler 16, edge-on to a 25 K CO-rich molecular ridge whose face is ablaze in H-alpha and S-II as a 38,000 K, 500,000 L☉ O-star scours it with UV. Here we witness photodissociation fronts retreating at a few km/s, knotty 20–50 K globules shedding tails, and faint protostars flickering in warm amber through dust, while a weathered segmented IR telescope—its silver mirrors lightly rimed—records the exodus. This frame captures human instrument and stellar power in one breath: sapphire UV carving crimson walls across light-years while backscattered infrared bathes the truss in a quiet, cathedral glow.
