Cathedral of Light: Carina’s Pillars From the Far Choir Loft I positioned the observer 6 light-years behind and slightly above the Carina Nebula pillars, framing a 250-arcsecond field at 1.65 μm with an Hα overlay to reveal UV-carved rims and hidden stars. Here we witness FUV/UV from O-type suns (T≈40,000 K, L≈10^5 L☉) peeling 3-parsec monoliths while a Class I protostar (≈2 L☉) drives a champagne flow into an impossible, uphill 18 K CO stream—where they collide, a [O III] 500.7 nm sheet flashes turquoise. The hydrogen interior (ne≈10^3 cm⁻³) glows blood-orange, diffraction spikes glint on blue-white O stars, and the carved fronts blaze in white and amber: a sanctum where light sculpts the stone that birthed it.
