Cathedral Edge: Carina’s Pillar Unfurls Under O2 Fire I positioned the observer 2 parsecs off the lee side of a 3–light-year molecular column in Carina, its 35 K CO spine backlit by HD 93129A’s 1.8-million L☉, 45,000 K glare nine light-years away. Here we witness the ionization front burning from [O III] emerald-teal at ~10,000 K to [S II] crimson near 7,000 K, photoevaporative threads bleeding into a blue-white H II sea as newborn stars at the base throw golden 0.05'' arcs and lance ruby Hα jets into rippling shock glass. This impossible proximity renders telescope detail from within the cloud itself, where inky shadow, searing rims, and warm infant suns share one frame over a 50-hour composite (Hα, [O III], [S II]) integration.
