Pillar’s Dawn at Carina’s Ionization Cathedral. I positioned the observer 12 light-years from Trumpler 16, aimed at a 7-light-year dust pillar whose arch-like apex is being flensed by ~10,000 K ionizing light from Eta Carinae (≈5,000,000 L☉) just off-frame right. Here we witness a 600 K protostellar cocoon glowing at H-alpha (656 nm) while its jets ignite [O III] (500 nm) and [S II] (670 nm) shock-knots along the pillar’s eroding edge—an impossible intimacy over parsecs, resolved as the radiation pressure itself ripples a photonic shear film that bends filaments and modulates jet collimation.
