Rising Through Carina’s Ionized Cathedral Buttress I positioned the observer two light-years inside the Carina Nebula, looking straight up a five–light-year dust pillar whose 35 K H₂ spine is being scalloped by a newborn O-type star (T≈37,000 K, L≈6×10^5 L☉). Here we witness a 10,000 K H II rim glowing in H-alpha and S II while dust filaments collapse inward at 3 km/s as the photoevaporative skin peels outward at 8 km/s—creation and erasure sharing the same edge. Cold blue light from off-frame ε Carinae (B1 III, T≈25,000 K) washes the haze as the rim transmits like stained glass, its emission refracted by dusty layers that mirror back in silvered echoes.
