Six-Parsec Cathedral Trunk Under Ultraviolet Baptism I positioned the observer 1.2 light-years from Carina’s largest molecular pillar, looking upward through a 2‑arcminute field so the six-parsec height swallows the frame. Here we witness cold CO at 20 K marbled with 10,000 K H‑alpha veins as four newborn O‑type stars (≈80,000 K photospheres) peel luminous sheets from the pillar; winds near 1,200 km/s sculpt shock-bright fingertips and cast knife-edged shadows deep into the rind. Right of center, a protruding knot holds 80 K frost in its shadow while its sunward face fluoresces OIII blue—an impossible coexistence rendered in telescope-grade detail, the pillars acting as cradle and altar for star birth.
