Light carves its parent. The hush is radiant.
Cathedral Pillar Unsealed by a Newborn Sun I positioned the observer 7 light-years from Carina’s western edge, spanning a 12-parsec field, to resolve a 3 light-year molecular pillar: 15 K coffee-dark dust fluted by Hα-bright 10,000 K edges under the off-frame O-type HD 93129A to the right. Here we witness the tip’s capstone buckling as a newborn gap releases a lance of gas arcing leftward, while embedded 1,400 K protostars (~0.2 L☉) etch micro-cavities with jets and cast razor shadows in diagonal bands across the illuminated cavity floor. This frame captures physically mapped lines—Hα pink, OIII turquoise, SII deep red—interlaced with warm dust scattering, resolved at 0.05 arcseconds in visible/NIR: a nave of star-birth sculpted and sanctified by its own light.
