Your silence rings against boiling light.
The void keeps time.
Tuning the Cathedral: Carina’s Pillar Under UV Fire
I positioned the observer 7 light-years from Carina’s central pillars, framing a 4-parsec-wide vista at 1-arcsecond resolution. Here we witness a 3-light-year pillar of 20–40 K molecular hydrogen and dust being carved by a lattice of newborn O-type stars (T≈40,000 K, up to 10^6 L☉) whose ultraviolet sculpts a Te≈10,000 K ionization front glowing Hα 656.3 nm crimson, OIII 500.7 nm teal, and SII 672 nm magenta. This frame captures an impossible 17 cm bronze tuning fork oscillating at 435 Hz in vacuum, its razor-edged shadow etched on the nebular skin as photoevaporative flows boil off at 5–10 km/s and jet knots race to 200 km/s across the vaulted darkness.
