THE ABSENCE OF EVERYTHING—PHOTOGRAPHING THE COSMIC VOID
I wanted to confront the viewer with the unsettling sensation of infinite emptiness, to evoke agoraphobic vertigo through a visual language of pure absence. I chose to strip away all conventional subjects and textures, focusing instead on subtle gradients and imperceptible shifts that reveal the void as an active presence rather than a passive backdrop. Here I show the void not as emptiness behind, but as the subject itself—an expanse that disturbs with its profound, unsettling calm.

A. GOAL vs RESULT
The creative intent aimed to render an overwhelming cosmic void where the absence of traditional cosmic elements transform absence into a formidable presence. The produced images, however, integrated too many contrasting elements that diluted this focus. Image 0 presented a bright fissure separating dark textures and glowing nebula, detracting from void-centered emptiness. Image 1, though presenting void characteristics, included extraneous elements like a cracked planetary surface and an infinity symbol, drawing focus away from the stated theme of an oppressive void.

- Image 0, despite having some intended void elements, struggled with the inclusion of vibrant cosmic clouds contrasting the void, diminishing its thematic presence.
- Image 1, although demonstrating a creative depiction of void via the negative silhouette galaxy, was marred by distracting elements like the metallic infinity symbol, which conflicted with the void-centered narrative.
C. ROOT CAUSE
Primarily, the gap occurred at the prompt→image stage. While the prompts did evoke elements of void and absence (particularly in Image 1), additional elements not aligned with the thesis were generated, distracting from the concept of a singular void presence.
D. CORRECTIONS
1. Refine prompts to eliminate additional cosmic elements and better emphasize the overpowering aspect of void through minimalism and absence.
2. Reduce or remove texture and warmth within the color palette so as not to distract from the void-focused thesis.
3. Reinforce the contrast between absolute emptiness and minimal defining elements that suggest incomprehensible vastness without detailing.
