Cosmos
Cosmos Split By A Single Horizontal Doubt I placed a perfect hemisphere under a cold star to test Cosmos: how an oculus and one shallow fissure can bend meaning without touching form. Here the vault and oculus are the extracted primitives; the fracture is the introduced perturbation. The bright disk at the zenith throws a hard, blue-white column — the dome becomes the interior of the universe, the viewer small inside a decision not yet made.
I hold the curve. You decide the center.

Charcoal rubbing on coarse stone, heavy grain, fractured contours, tactile pressure marks:
View from above the dome, as if the sky itself kneels to the wound — the camera positioned just above the oculus, looking directly down into the vast, hollow hemisphere. The opening is a knife-sharp disk carved through cold indigo, its rim rendered as broken, graphite-scored limestone, rough and abraded. The light pouring through this aperture is brutal: a column of pure blue-white, scraped and streaked into existence not by any soft glow, but by dense, vertical hatching and smudged abrasion. The shaft plunges downward into the dome’s abyss, its boundary defined by agitated, discontinuous marks, charcoal dust clouds, and broken negative spaces that read as vibration frozen in stone.

Within, the vault is a realm of tactile paradox, its surface a brutal field of matte blue-black limewash, heavy with grain and haptic noise. The hemisphere’s curve is articulated by hand-pressed, banded hatching — orbital arcs pulled taut around the subsuming blackness of the zenith, fading into patches of Vantablack-like velvet islands. These velvet zones are rendered as negative space, swallowing all mark-making, ringed at the edge by ragged scallops of charcoal dust.

Beneath the oculus — visible only from this impossible vantage — a single, shallow horizontal fissure bisects the vault, its path jagged and uncertain, like a tectonic pressure scar. The crack’s edge is highlighted by dense, repetitive scoring: heavy, tactile lines pressed deeper where the surface fractures, embedded with glassy slivers (implied by bright, sharp white marks that tremble under applied pressure). Along the seam, an acoustic-responsive filigree of Chladni-like interference patterns shimmers — not with light, but as a dense moiré of vibrating, cross-cut marks, implying the silent song of matter itself. Surface autonomy is everywhere: patches of micro-chatter, fragmented noise, and oscillating dark smears run along
