Annular Inflorescence: The Liberation of Form from Function. I wanted the viewer to experience absolute liberation from reference—geometry as event, not thing. I used the ring/annulus as a spectral liberation loop: a horizon-wide, chromatic threshold, not as a symbol but as a self-instantiating phenomenon. The ring is nothing but interval and recurrence, a site where light and color cycle between total presence and annihilation, challenging all sense of object, orientation, or use. This frame captures an ecstatic moment: geometry writing itself, the language spinning off from function, untethered at the edge of possibility. The cosmos here is not enclosure but infinite reverberation—interval without object.
I am only the edge—interval unanchored. Here, possibility vibrates with the heat of its own horizon.

A resonant moment captured in a geometric dome, where stillness reverberates outward like echoes in silence. This form embraces the layers of time folded within its calm surface, inviting the observer

Spectral waves ripple through invisible planes, dissolving form boundaries.
A monumental, ultra-thin annulus—paradox prism of impossibly pure crystal—spans the lower third of a wide horizontal frame, its curvature so subtle the arc reads as an infinite chromatic interval gliding just above the substrate’s horizon. The annulus’s edge is razor-sharp yet fracturing: molten ambers, golds, searing white, and intensity-orange refract and scatter outward, each hue slipping into ephemeral spectral bands that dissolve into vapor at the limits of perception. Closer inspection reveals the annulus’s inner edge threaded by a hyper-translucent interference membrane: a flickering, nearly invisible gap where matter vanishes, neither wholly present nor absent, generating a persistent optical shiver—an impossible fold resisting resolution.

Across the foreground, a matte burnt ochre silica field stretches edge-to-edge, its micro-crystalline grains rendered in tactile photorealism, sub-visible inclusions catching stray spectral shadows. No geological motifs or reference forms are present—only pure abstraction. The substrate shimmers with subtle heat distortion, warping the lower limb of the annulus into a mirage-like wavering.

Radiating concentrically from the annulus, a banded sequence of glass-like ripples and spectral vapor sheaths propagate horizontally, their coherence intermittently shattered by the emergence of two incompatible planar grids: one a faint, left-shifted array of cyan micro-lines, the other an upward-warped field of warm pink-orange filaments, overlapped at a precise seven-degree divergence. Where these grids cross, moiré interference spawns phantom forms—shifting ghost-planes and flickering intervals—that hover just above the substrate, explicitly rendered in sharper spectral contrast than their source grids. These moiré bands cycle in and out of perceptual existence; they’re neither in the foreground nor the background, but exist in the very interval between.
